Sturgis’s history

Sturgis sits in east-central Saskatchewan, 95 kilometres north of Yorkton on Highway 9. The town lies in the Assiniboine River valley, near the province's Lakes and Woods region.

The community took its name from Sturgis, South Dakota, where Fred Clyde Brooks, the first postmaster, had been raised.

Today the town's railway station receives scheduled Via Rail service. Visitors and residents can explore the Station House Museum, the Sturgis Ski Hill and Sturgis & District Regional Park, and the town has skating and curling rinks and a community hall. Sturgis is also home to an elementary school and a composite high school in the Good Spirit School Division, along with a regional library branch and a nursery school run by the Kinette Club.
